NORTH ATTLEBORO - The Route 1 storefront that used to offer kids toys will now be selling adult beverages, instead.
Capodanno's Liquors, which opened when Prohibition ended in 1933 and has been a downtown landmark since then, is moving to a new location at 1190 South Washington St. The Route 1 location in the plaza with Office Depot used to be home to Kids R Us. It is across Route 1 from Emerald Square mall.
Owner Christopher Gasbarro, who took over the liquor store two years ago, will also change the name to Chris Gasbarro's Fine Wine and Spirits.
Selectmen approved the change of location Thursday after a brief public hearing.
Pat Gaudette, who lives next door to the location in the Whispering Pines Trailer Park, asked whether the property's parking lot would be cleaned up. "It's just a terrible eyesore," she said.
Gasbarro said he is also concerned with the condition of the parking lot and is working with Office Depot, the property's owner, to make sure.
"Everywhere else I am, I own the property and I'm very proud of the way I keep it," he said.
Attorney Eliot Brais, who represents Gasbarro, said Capodanno's leased its downtown storefront. He does not know if any other tenants are moving in.

Why no love for the downtown location? Just curious why you would even care either way if there's a liquor store downtown.. "
