Locals shine at Bay State Games




Local residents both young and old flocked to the Bay State games the past two weekends to compete in a variety of events with the best Massachusetts had to offer.

* Ty Brennan of Attleboro, the oldest resident competing at age 57, took fifth in the 50-and-over 50 meter freestyle, second in the 200 meter IM, and third in the 200 meter backstroke.

* Donna Neuendorf, also of Attleboro, was all over the leaderboard in the Masters Swimming. She took third in the women's 35-49 100 meter backstroke, first in the 50 meter freestyle, second in the 200 meter IM, and first in the 100 meter freestyle.

* Daniela Beasley of Mansfield took fourth in the girls' 13-15 400 meter IM and second in the 200 meter butterfly.

* Jordan Foster of Attleboro was impressive in Baton Twirling, taking home three gold medals. She took home the crown in the aAdvanced X Strut, the Advanced 1 Baton, and the Advance 2 Baton in her 13-15 age group. * Heather Goodwin of Norton took the gold in Advanced Basic for the 13-15 age group while finishing in second in the Advanced X Strut, the Advanced 1 Baton, and third in the Advanced 2 Baton.

* Amanda Houlihan of Norton took the gold in Beginner Basic in the 13-15 year old age group. She finished behind Foster and Goodwin for third in the Advanced X Strut, third in Intermediate I, and second in Beginner 2 Baton. Sister Lindsay took first in the Beginner 1 in the 13-15 age group.

* Victoria Zinitti of South Attleboro won the gold in the Beginner X Strut in the 13-15 year old group and the Intermediate 1.

Her older sister Alexandra finished second in the Advanced Strut in the 19-and-over masters group and the Advance 1 Baton while finishing third in Advance 2 Baton.

* Jackie McDermott, who attends Foxboro Regional Charter School, won the Advanced 1 Baton and the Advanced 2 Baton in the 16-18 age group and took second in Advanced Basic and third in the Advanced X Strut.

* Ashley Nyzio of Attleboro took second in the javelin in the women's open division with a throw of 121-7.

* William Foley of Dighton took eighth in the men's open discus throw and sixth in the men's hammer.

* From Mansfield, Kevin Meagher took the gold in the scholastic 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:37.44 and finished in sixth in the mile with a time of 5:00.26. Sebastian Bilentschuk took second in the boys' scholastic discus throw with a toss of 121-04. Brycen Dowd finished in eighth in the boys' scholastic 100 meters with a time of 12.40. Shawn McCabe took fourth in the scholastic shot put with a throw of 42 feet, while Chris Fong finished right behind him in fifth with a throw of 40-09. Daniel Cerqueira finished third in the mens' open 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:04.85.

* Nick Wade of North Attleboro won gold in the scholastic one mile run, finishing with a time of 4:35.66. Dan McKim finished in sixth in the scholastic 110 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line at 17.53. Grant Burwell finished in sixth in both the 100 and 200 meters.

* From Norton, Kelly Allen won the scholastic discus throw with a toss of 130-5, 27 feet further than second place. She also won the shot put with a throw of 34-8. Michael Masone finished in sixth in the mens' open javelin throw with a toss of 164-3. * Vanessa Noelte from Seekonk won two gold medals, one in the junior 200 meter run with a time of 27.98 and the other in the triple jump, where she jumped 30-3. She also took the silver in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.57 seconds.

* In wrestling, freshman Brian Dorman of Foxboro finished in fifth place in the scholastic tournament in the 112-pound weight class.

* Rebecca Regan of Foxboro finished in third place in the Female Juniors 123-pound weight class in judo. Regan chose to compete in the age group one higher than her normal group.

* Stephan Neville of Foxboro finished in second in the boys' scholastic 100 meter dash with a time of 11.34 seconds, Norfolk resident Brenton Chapski finished in third with a time of 11.80, Domonique Dennis of Foxboro finished fourth with a time of 11.82, and Grant Burwell of North Attleboro took sixth, finishing at 12.30. Neville took the gold in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.87, Chapski took fourth in 23.94, Dennis finished fifth with a time of 23.95 and Burwell took sixth at 25.01.

* Ryan Darcangelo of Norfolk took fourth in the men's open 800 meter run, finishing in 2:04.57.

* Tyler Lewis and Zachary Watson of Foxboro finished seventh and 12th, respectively, in the 800 meter run. Watson finished fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches. Melissa Ellard took eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.08 seconds and eighth in the 200 with a time of 28.97.

* From Wrentham, Katie Kelleher performed well in the girls scholastic throwing events. Kelleher took second in both the discuss (103-05) and the shot put (33-09.5). Melissa Smith took fourth in the discuss with a throw of 87-06. Kaila Smith, competing in the womens' open division, took sixth place with a throw of 97-07.

* Also from Wrentham, Celeste Carey took eighth in the girls 13-15 swimming 400 meter IM (6:08.91) and tenth in the 800 meter freestyle (10:51.18). Nicaela Chinnaswamy finished in eighth in the girls 13-15 200 meter butterfly with a time of 2:47.98, while Elly Chinnaswamy took seventh in the 13-15 800 meter freestyle (10:42.47.

* The Coastal girls soccer team took fourth overall with a 2-4 record. Lauren Annese of Attleboro scored a goal in the team's 1-0 victory over Metro.

E Ryan Lee of Attleboro was a key offensive force for the Coastal baseball team. Lee went 3-for-4 in Coastal's 12-3 victory over West and 2-for-3 in the 7-4 win over Metro. Greg Davey and Brandon Howard of Norfolk played for the gold medal-winning Southeast baseball team.

* The Coastal softball team, which won the silver, featured local resident Morgan Lindberg of Attleboro.

* Chris Brennan of Wrentham scored a goal in Southeast's 4-2 loss to Coastal in boys soccer. Southeast finished in fourth.

* James Saunders and Stephen Notarangelo, lacrosse players from Foxboro High School, each played on the Southeast team that fell in the gold medal match 10-6 to the Central team. Saunders scored three goals in Southeast's 15-3 victory over West. The Southeast team then beat Northeast 12-10 with two goals in the final 30 seconds to advance to the gold medal match.
