Swindells pitches Post 93 into 2nd place

Top Headlines After blanking Dedham 11-0, Foxboro finishes the regular season with a 13-7-2 record and tied for second in District 6 West with Needham. Needham plays tonight, a win gives them the No. 2 seed, but a tie or a loss gives the coveted No. 2 spot to Post 93. Mansfield High prodect Joe Swindells has been a big part of Foxboro's turnaround. Counting Wednesday's six-inning, nine-strikeout performance, Swindells has struck out 24 batters over his last 13 innings pitched. Against Dedham, he allowed just three hits and one walk. Joe Clagg finished up with an inning of one-hit relief. Along with the pitching heroics, Foxboro's bats have come alive. Against Dedham, eight players drove in runs on just 10 total hits. Foxboro broke open the game early with a six-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run double by John Ford. Post 93 added to the rout with a three-run fifth. Joe Nixon finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk. Berkley 8, South Attleboro 2 ATTLEBORO - After winning 20 of its first 23 games, Post 312 has hit a bit of a tough luck, losing its third game in the last four outings. Berkley jumped on South Attleboro right out of the box, scoring four in the first inning, including a pair of home runs. Attleboro High's Conor Larkin came on in relief and pitched well over the next six innings before giving up three runs in the seventh inning. South Attleboro's bats have gone cold and the team managed just nine hits overall with Luke Gagne, Lonny Bornstein and Paul Piatelli collected two apiece. Post 312 closes out the regular season tonight at home against Somerset, which needs a win to qualify for the playoffs. South Attleboro is already assured of a home playoff game on Sunday, with the opponent yet to be determined. South Attleboro Juniors 11, Seekonk 5 SEEKONK - Bouncing back from a weekend sweep at the hands of Somerset, South Attleboro rallied for a big win over Seekonk, clinching a playoff spot in the process. Seekonk jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but Brian Minichello came on in relief and pitched one-hit ball over the final four innings. The rally started as Ryan Santos drove in four of South Attleboro's first six runs and then got some help from a two-run homer by Danny Lang. Alex Witkus and Brett Mastropoll each had two hits for South Attleboro. South Attleboro is at Fall River tonight.
